Community Engagement
The Independent Institute of Education (Pty) Ltd (The IIE) believes that a holistic education includes students engaging with the values associated with active citizenship and being given opportunities to serve their communities and/or develop a deeper understanding of key social issues.
Community Engagement serves as the bridge that connects The IIE with the world beyond our campuses. This dynamic interaction involves collaborative efforts between students, faculty, staff, and the local community, fostering a two-way exchange of knowledge, resources, and experiences.
Community Engagement is multifaceted and impacts on education, research, and societal development. Service-learning initiatives are incorporated into our curricula, which provides students with an opportunity to apply classroom theories to real-world challenges, generating solutions that benefit both the community and their own academic growth.
We partner with local organisations, governments, communities, and businesses to address pressing issues. Through these collaborations, research becomes a powerful tool for positive change, as academics and students work hand in hand with community members to co-create meaningful solutions. Through Community Engagement The IIE realises its transformative potential as active participants in building a just, socially cohesive, and interconnected world.
Therefore, programmes of community awareness, social awareness campaigns and structured citizenship activities are available on all campuses. Wherever feasible, work integrated learning curricula include work with and for social and community-based organisations or initiatives.
Staff on the campuses and at the central head offices also engage in citizenship projects either alongside the students or as part of a CSI programme.
The IIE’s Varsity College is proud to confirm the launch of a R25 million, Scholarship Programme focused on ensuring access to 250 students who would not otherwise have been able to access quality Private Higher Education.
